Clearer Sharing

We’ve tweaked the acknowledgement page – the page you see after you’ve saved a webpage – to address some of the most common feedback given to us.

This is the previous version of the page. Complicated, lengthy & intimidating.

Now, that has been reduced to its absolute minimum, e.g. the sharing options are now down to mere icons:

But removing isn’t everything we did. Amazingly enough, we’ve also found space to add a little surprise that we’re sure will delight some of you. To find out more, just click on the “Email” icon the next time you save…

Less anonymous

Not everyone likes to sign up for new things, and definitely not all your friends like to sign up for things you’ve just signed up for.

But that doesn’t mean it should cripple your ability to use your own cool tool to work with anybody else.  Today we took yet another tiny step towards that direction by allowing the people you work with to informally identify themselves if they have no account with us.

We hope you’d enjoy the slightly less anonymous commenting.

Information overload? Read Later!

There are so many things to read on the web – tech news, links from friends and blogs – and I’d open them, “hmm looks interesting, will read them later” but never could find time to do so in day.

grokked: hi, do you know any web service that can add arbitary web pages to an RSS feed? like i have a whole bunch of pages open in my browser and i want to just add them into google reader for review later
me: maybe can email urself the page or soemthing.. or maybe delicious them. that’s also an RSS
grokked: i was thinking more of the actual page appearing within google reader… this only give me urls
me: hmmm

And hence an experimental feature was quietly launched: The “read later” bookmarklet – Click on the bookmarklet and SharedCopy will stash the page somewhere for you to read later, in your favourite feed reader:

Profile & Protected Comments

I’ve been quietly testing our new Profile customization feature these few days:

As a user, simply click on the “Customize…” link at the top of your profile, and you can start re-designing – and seeing the results immediately! We accept plain CSS and the best thing is, you don’t have to start from scratch – select designs from other users and modify from there! Its easy – look, here’s my attempt

The next feature has been requested for a while now, and I’ve just pushed it out (not available to all users yet, see bottom)

Under “Settings”, you can now choose to let only a selected group of users to access your comments.

Whereas the existing “private” bookmarklet prevent your comments from being listed on the website, you can still share the URL with anyone and they’ll be able to access it.

However if you choose to “protect your comments”, then only the users you’ve selected will be able to access them.

We’re no longer ugly!

Its taken a while, but SharedCopy has finally shed its old skin. A new logo, a new look and very importantly a new comments design.

Additionally, we’ve put up a 1 minute video clip that’ll hopefully push through the gist of what our webapp does

I’m liking the new look very much.

HTTPS and other private pages

Alright, you’ve asked for it: Support for HTTPS pages.

Want to share some analytics numbers with someone else but don’t want the hassle of giving out your login / password? Use SharedCopy to take a snap shot, and give ‘em the link to the copy instead:

Other things that you can share, unique to SharedCopy:

• Pages behind a login: Logged in to your Control Panel and don’t see something right? Use SharedCopy and show your administrator the page exactly like you’re seeing it.
• Pages behind a firewall: Vetting web page mock ups hosted within your VPN, Intranet, or even on your local machine? As long as you and the person you’re sharing with can both see the original web page, you can use SharedCopy to annotate and collaborate.

Introducing Tags and a robust Highlighter

Finally! We can now tag our annotated pages – Just click on “tags” to input your desired tags, click “OK” and “Save”

The default tags will be the date of creation and the original domain name. I’m not really a hardworking, tagging kind of person so I’ve been finding this default really useful. Hopefully it works well for you too.

You can browse your listing by tags as shown below or even subscribe to the tag’s feed. For the developers, simply change that “.xml” to “.json” in the feed URL to get the data in JSON format

Also, we’ve fixed one of the long running problems of SharedCopy – the highlighting. With Tien Dung helping to tame our Javascript, you can now effortlessly highlight across paragraphs & hyperlinks using IE, Firefox or Safari!
